Hello and welcome to Coding With Harry! First, I’d like to say thank you for checking out the site and I hope you’re eager to learn how to code with me. This has become my project for Summer ’19. Not only did I want to learn how to code but I also wanted to share my experience and help teach others.

I am currently finishing my undergraduate degree in biochemistry at the University of Exeter. During my time in Exeter, I realised that coding is extremely important and common in the workplace. However, doing a degree in biochemistry only taught me very little coding skills. Most of what I learned was for a language called R, which is commonly used in sciences, and I self-taught myself a lot of it.

I have applied for a Masters in Bioinformatics and realised that for me to do well in the field it would require a few more programming languages under my belt.

The intentions of this blog is to show you my journey but also to cut out the jargon and complicated parts that you might find in other tutorials. If you’re a beginner it’s best to follow the tutorials from the start.

A new tutorial should be uploaded (almost) every week. In the mean time practice examples should keep you busy. It is important to keep refreshing your memory to get better at coding. Don’t just give up!

If you have any questions regarding errors from my tutorials or have a general interest in what I’ve mentioned drop me a message on the “Contact” page. Any coding errors outside of the tutorials I strongly advise visiting Stack Overflow (https://stackoverflow.com/). If you have any bioinformatics specific questions I’d recommend visiting Biostars ( https://www.biostars.org/ ).

Thank you very much for your time and enjoy programming!

Best wishes,

Harry
